Essential Skills Work Visa
If you’ve been offered a full-time job in New Zealand, and you have the necessary qualifications and experience to work in that job, you can apply for an Essential Skills Work Visa to work in New Zealand. Your employer must have checked if any New Zealanders were available to do the work, before offering you the job. If you’re granted this visa, you may be able to support visa applications for your partner and dependent children.
Work visas can be granted for up to 5 years if the role is deemed highly skilled by Immigration New Zealand. For lower skilled roles, work visas can be granted for no more than 1 year at a time.
This visa doesn’t allow self-employment. If you want to be self-employed, you can apply for an Entrepreneur Work Visa. LINK PLEASE
If you want to extend your stay in New Zealand, you can apply for another Essential Skills Work Visa. The only exceptions are those who have lower-skilled employment or are subject to a 12 month stand-down period.
